A KPMG survey released this week found that 29% of senior leaders don't understand why their AI costs keep climbing, even as they cut the human staff that AI was meant to replace. Why is AI pricing suddenly so unpredictable

None of this should be a surprise. AI pricing was never really a software business to begin with. Flat subscriptions worked fine while usage stayed low. Every one of those figures is a fixed price, agreed before the work starts – nobody's meter runs while the model "thinks," and nobody gets a bill in month four that wipes out a year's budget in one line.

Is this an anti-AI argument

No. Plenty of the freelancers doing this work use AI themselves, and faster than they could five years ago. It's an argument about who ends up holding the risk. When a business hires a person, the price is the price. When it rents a frontier model by the token, the price is really a bet on how many times the thing gets it right the first time – and lately that bet keeps losing.
